The Basic Information about the Railway

In fact, the Qinghai Tibet Railway starts from Xi’ning and ends in Lhasa. After the construction in 2006, the railway was extended to Beijing with one thousand one hundred and ten kilometers. The whole railway distance from Beijing to Lhasa is about three thousand seven hundred and fifty-seven kilometers. It takes travelers about forty hours and thirty minutes from Beijing to Lhasa by train. The most beautiful scenery along the railway starts from Xi’ning. You will see many attractions such as Jinyintan Prairie, Qinghai Lake, Qarhan Salt Lake, Kunlun Mountains, Tanggula Mountains, etc.

If you want to take a train to Tibet from Beijing, you should arrive at Beijing West Railway Station in advance. The train leaves form Beijing at 20:00. You will spend three days on the train. You will arrive at Lhasa Railway Station at 12:20. Train No.Z21 is available for you. When you finish your Tibet tour, you can take Train No.Z22 back to Beijing. The train leaves from Lhasa at 16:30. It will take you thirty-nine hours and fifty-eight minutes to finish the whole train trip. You will arrive at Beijing Railway Station at 08:28.

Three Kinds of Train Tickets

Three kinds of train tickets are available to passengers. The most comfortable one is the soft sleeper berth. Although the price of the ticket is expensive, it fits for the long journey from Beijing to Lhasa. The second ticket is the hard sleeper berth. It is also comfortable but the room is narrow. The price of the ticket is lower than the soft sleeper berth. The third ticket is the hard seat. Passengers cannot lie down even you are very tired. Although the price is the lowest one, you’d better not book this kind of ticket. Because you need to rest on the train. If you plan to take a train to Tibet from Beijing, you need to book the train ticket in advance, especially in the peak season.
